For your amusement, I post this link to Wikipedia's definition of a thesis statement.

Whatever the original intention of the editors, I hope they provide a link to this entry under parody.

FYI: that definition of a thesis statement is actually what I was taught in my English class in high school in the early 80s . . . (Honors English)

In Wikipedia's defense -- boy, there's something I don't say every day -- the article is clearly flagged as grossly insufficient.

WE are the editors of Wikipedia. There is no they. If you don't like the entry, then fix it. It's quicker, easier, and more useful than writing a snarky post about it. Just sayin'...

The Wiki entry apparently was written by a scientist or perhaps a science student. It's woeful writing (and thus inelegant) but ... butt ...
