Our square state was kissed by the remnants of Hurricane Ike yesterday -- a kiss with tongue and teeth and hands down the pants and "You know you want more of this, don't you, you slut?" While we escaped being bludgeoned by falling trees, we have lost all power.* Estimates for the restoration of power range from "a few more hours" to "Saturday for sure." We have about 20 pounds of venison and 10 pounds of home-made sausage and kielbasa thawing in the freezer.
We're having a cookout! Y'all are invited. Bring cold beer, candles and ice.
*I'm blogging from LSU, where all is normal. Football must go on!

Oh my! Here's hoping that the lights are back on soon, and that you can salvage all your frozen fod.
Good luck getting power back soon.
Don't forget about "hung beef" still being edible, though a "delicacy". Also, if you get ower back soon enough, meat that has been cooked can be frozen.
Our big grocery stores around here sell dry ice, too. That can make a deep freezer last three days if you don't keep opening it. Can you get any to get you through?
When we were hit by Isabel a few years back, everybody on the street got together and had a cookout from my freezer. Most of the rest of the street has power back in two days. Ours was out for nine- we were one of two houses on that particular circuit, so we were WAY down the list for restoration.
Wish we could road trip down there with the cold beer. I'm sure you guys could really, really, really use some.

Tiger football went on, too, bleeding purple and gold. It amazes me you are out of power that far up. Condolences. I kept power but lost shingles.
So far, so good: Still no power, but our freezers are full and (as of yesterday) still below 30F. Our neighbors found some of the last ice in the county and gave us a few bags. Prof. Zero, the weather dude says it was still Category 1 coming through Square State! Unbelievable, huh? Some freakish combination of Hurricane Ike and other weather issues.
Category 1 - Good God! We aren't sure it was even Category 1 down here in south central Louisiana ... !
Shocking, because it has long been my contention, or strategy of denial, that hurricanes can't stay hurricanes as far inland as you are. Now I'm more worried about the next one. Ah well. Enjoy your electricity and get well to the AB!
