Hope this helps!

Dear Angry Professor,
I need to know how to study for the exam. There's so much material. Should I focus more on the lecture material or on the readings?
Sincerely,
Worried Student

Dear Worried,
My lecture material is mostly out of the readings. So if you know the material in your readings, you should be fine. Also, if you know the lectures, you should be fine.
Sincerely,
Angry Professor

THAT'S AWESOME.
Sorry for the shouting, but that's how I felt when I read that. :)

Sometimes, they're just so weirded out by the idea of an exam that putting two and two together just can't happen. That would be a generous interpretation, eh?

Do you ever feel like saying, "why bother -- You're just going to fail anyway." If nothing else, you'd get to see their heads explode.

Someday I'll put together a list of questions like this and collect the snarkiest answers my blogging professoriate peers can come up with-- Kind of a Mad Magazine's Snappy Answers to Stupid Academic Questions.

If so, you'll definitely be on the list.
