I'd much rather have this person plus a spell checker than some of the other nimrods you've chronicled. At least this lad/lass is making some kind of effort before the absence, even if it is a bit demanding.

Please e-mail me back and let me know your thoughts. ;-)

omg...

when I read stuff like this, I can't believe how hard my parents are pushing me to enter academia (I'm a doctoral student).

That's way too much information! And the spelling!! I will say though, as someone who has had problems with migraines since age 12, they can be completely debilitating for up to three days. Not fun.

Ditto on how debilitating migraines can be. I can even understand using text messaging - it can be done from the bed of pain, without having to try to sit up at the computer.

Whew. I hope this student writes more coherent e-mails when he/she isn't having migraines.

Well she was thoughtful enough to let you know about her headache.

I have suffered from migraines from time to time and I can tell you that death is an option to get away from the pain. I also know my spelling and motor skills deteriorate a lot when I have a headache. That may explain the bad spelling.

Has she been a good student otherwise? If so, I would grant her the benefit of the doubt.

I'm a copy editor. I can't take it. The messages you post make my head hurt.

Although, I do understand how a migraine could make it impossible to get to class.

Because NOTHING helps a migraine like gazing at the brightly-lit computer screen.

Lord almighty. I have horrid migraines. It's debilitating. Which is why throughout school I did the thing you're supposed to do - get in touch with disability services and let the professors know - with documentation - before something occured.

Now that I've started teaching - and getting these excuses - I understand why the professors always acted like I as malingering.
