Ouch.

I haven't needed any significant dental work since I was 25. This year I needed three new fillings, two filling replacements, and a bite guard. The first filling replacement turned into a cracked tooth which required a crown. The second filling replacement, I learned this afternoon, has also resulted in a cracked tooth with nerve involvement, so tomorrow I am scheduled for a root canal. In three weeks I'll get a temporary crown.

I have maxed out my yearly dental benefits. I get to pay for the root canal and the new crown with cash money.

You have my utmost sympathies.

Good luck with all that.

Yikes. I'm so sorry.

Have you considered switching dentists?

I'm so sorry. As you probably remember, I've had a shitload of dental work done in the last 3 years. This year I had 4 crowns and 1 root canal. I feel for you. But trust me, it's worth the money. You don't want to futz with your teeth. They WILL futz back!

Why on earth are you going back to a dentist who keeps breaking your teeth?

He isn't breaking my teeth. It's called cracked tooth syndrome. The fault is with the silver amalgam fillings. Both broken teeth had very deep fillings and were structurally quite weak to begin with.

Many dentists have told me that there was trouble ahead in my mouth.

Oy. That's awful.

Sorry about the dental work. It's such a pain all around!

Love the picture, though! LOL

Mission accomplished! The endodontist reports that the crack had nothing to do with the filling; it was cracked on the plane perpendicular to the filling.

Except for the needles at the beginning, it didn't hurt. Three weeks, a crown, and I should be back to normal. Poorer, but normal.

Glad it went well!

How much does a crown go for these days? I need about four, but I have no income and no insurance, so they'll have to wait, I think.

The root canal was $950. The crown will be $760. Had I any insurance left it would pick up 50% of that.
